Unless you want full structural formulae, these can be done simply using
subscripts, the shortcut key for which is Ctrl+=. e.g. To write the
formula for ethanol, you would type

CH Ctrl+= 3 Ctrl+= CH Ctrl+= 2 Ctrl+= OH

If you need equations, then you can use the + character between the
participants, but you'll need a right arrow between the reactants and
the products. This can be found in the Symbol font, via Insert > Symbol.
