writing text around pictures

I am going mad trying to design a newsletter with pictures inserted from a
file. I need the picture on the left of the page and the text to wrap around
the right-hand side of it and below it. I tried double-clicking on the
picture and using the "format picture" box and the advanced setting (box with
the dog in centre and text around it) then selecting to centre text to the
right. The text does as asked but then the picture disappears! Help would be
appreciated, I'm getting desperate due to deadlines. Thanks!

Don't right-align the text. Leave it left-aligned or justified as usual. Set
the wrapping on the graphic to Square or Tight. Drag the graphic to the left
margin. If you need to fine-tune the positioning, go to Format Picture |
Layout | Advanced and set it as Left relative to Column.
