Had an OEM copy of Office 2003 Pro installed. It installed already
activated. Using a keyfinder utility, it showed a different key than the
one I installed that came with it. I'll call this Key1. I went to the
Microsoft Validate website and it said the OEM was counterfeit. Suspecting
the key was bad I used the following procedure
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/new_cdkey.htm
to enter the product key that came with the OEM disk. Office said it was
not a valid key. So I completely uninstalled the OEM version, installed an
unused Retail copy of Office 2003 Pro, and put in the retail key. Using a
keyfinder utility, it still shows the original key , Key1, than was in the
OEM installation. The curious thing, it validated on the MS website.
Anyone have an idea of what happened?
