WSS in PWA question

Issues and Risks in PWA are unique to WSS in that there are some special
features that aren't included when creating a 'custom list' (such as turning
on/off email notices when 'assigned to' is changed).

I have customized the 'issues' list for a PM's project. Word got out, and
now other PM's want something similar for their projects.

Is there a way to make that customised 'Issues List' a WEB part that I can
then use on other Project WSS sites so I don't have to start from 'scratch'
each time?

(With several fingers crossed)....thanks

Mark,

The custom list you created is not a web part, but can be made as a
template. Applying the template will cause all new WSS sites
provisioned by Project Server to use the modified list.

You can also edit the site definition to (the asp pages and XML) to
make the Issue list a permanent part of the site. That requires
modifying the code and it is not particularly intuititve (there are,
IIRC, 5 files that have to be edited. The template offers the best
option, as long as you don't need to retroactively use the new Issue
list with existing sites.

Hope this helps,

The list I Customised is the actual 'Issues' list for that project site.
When going into Site Settings it doesn't look like it provides the option to
save it as a template.

Am I missing something?

Open the List. Modify Settings and Contents. Don't you have a "Save List as
Template" item in the first section ?

(This was the way I would have done it (Save List as Template) but I didn't
get the feeling that was Mark E.'s suggestion).

No save list is there. It seems the lists 'out of the box' with project
server are 'announcements', 'contacts', 'events', 'links','issues', and
'risks'. All lists EXCEPT 'issues' and 'risks', have the following options:

Change general settings
Save list as template
Change permissions for this list
Delete this list
Select a portal area for this list

If one creates a new 'custom' list the above features are also available.

The 'Issues' or 'Risks' lists have ONLY the following options:

Change general settings
Change permissions for this list
Select a portal area for this list

...and I had customized the 'Issues' list for a specialized use to take
advantage of the email notice feature (not provided with a 'custom' list).
However, there doesn't seem to be a way to save it as a template.

So, now I'm looking for a way to save it as a template or copy it to a
common area or something, so that I don't have to modify the issues list from
scratch when I get requests to repeat it for other projects, where the PM
feels that 'issues' are not required, but my modified 'issues' list would be
neat to have.

It seems I've created a bit of a monster and have generated a lot of busy
work for myself.

It sure would be nice if someone had some ideas about this. I cannot
believe no one else has run across this predicament...I'm certainly not
unique.

I have standard WSS. There (at least) there is the Save List as Template for
an Issues List (I went to check - I even checked in the Issues List in the
WSS part of Portal Server 2003).

Anyway I see that you've now reposted your entire message as a new thread
(although I don't understand why as this thread was still active) so we can
call it a day for this thread.
