WSS upgrade requirements

I'd like to confirm whether Windows Server 2003 is a
requirement to upgrade STS to WSS. There have been posts
in this newsgroups saying it is required, but I have not
read anything about this in the MS documentation.

If this is the case, will STS continue to run with the
Project Server 2003 upgrade?

STS can run on Windows Server 2002 and 2003
WSS can run only on Windows Server 2003
