How can I use WSUS to update Office XP OEM installations that were installed
from CD? When installing from the OfficeUpdate site, I need to insert the
CD into the system. I need the ability to update Office without the CD.

Really? Last time I manually updated Office from the web, I was asked if I
wanted the update or the "full release" package that would not require the
CD. If you are not being prompted, you should be able to download the full
patch manually.

The Office team has made changes to make patching without source easier to
do, like using the Local Install Source (LIS) in Office 2003, but that's not
available for Office XP. I believe they have also made improvements to the
updates themselves, so that each update contains both a patch version and a
fullfile version. If the patch version doesn't work because source is
missing, then the desired effect is to fall back to fullfile on the next
installation attempt.

Have you tried patching Office XP with WSUS yet to see if the install does
fallback to fullfile and succeed without source?

My WSUS server is still downloading the "Approved for Install" patches.
I'll know in a day or two. By the way, my Office 2003 installs patched just
fine.

OT: I'm waiting for next Tuesday's patches - for a change I'm hoping for a
bunch - so that I can verify WSUS is working so I can deinstall SUS SP1.
