XL closes all sprdshts with Red X (Word only Active Doc-prefered)

It would be less shocking if all Office apps closed the same way - Excel
closes all spreadsheets with the Red X, but Word only closes the active doc
(preferred, because you are not always paying attention to what else is open
other than the active Doc.)

This one has my vote!

Although, I do understand why there is a difference. The only way they
can make them function the same is to make Excel behave like Word and
PPT and that wouldn't go over so well.

In Word you could try going to Tools/Options/General and turning off
"Windows in the taskbar". Word will use a Multiple Document Interface
(MDI) which will show all open documents in one task that displays in
the Windows taskbar. Instead, they will be listed under the Window
menu.
