xls file opens but no display.

My wife can open xls files in Excell 2002 but a few do not display. As she
runs the cursor over the blank page the formulas for that cell shows. She is
also asked if she wants to save the changes when she clicks on the x close
button. Most other xls files open and display fine. Why?
