xlsb problem since recent patch?

Hi,

I have two linked xlsb files, the first a lookup on the second using
indirect statements to lookup values in further xlsb files. Both workbooks
make extensive use of named ranges (>1000). Because of the use of the
indirect function, both workbooks must be open together for values to appear
in the first workbook.

Since about 10 days ago, opening both xlsb files together has caused Excel
to crash. Prior to that I'd been using them without a problem for about 15
months.

Saving the xlsb files as xlsm files solves the issue. I'm content with that
as a solution, but maybe someone at MS might be interested in this?

Let me know if so & I'll send the xlsb files.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi,

Just curious - what are you saving files as xlsb rather than the xlsx/xlsm
file format?

Hi Shane,

I only ever use xlsb format files - they are functionally the same as xlsm
files (as I understand it), but save and open faster and are smaller on disk.

As an update to my original post, it turned out that once I'd updated the
links between the two workbooks the xlsm files crashed Excel too. I guess
there were just too many links. I've split the workbooks up & now things are
fine again.

Still a bit weird though, as the number of links hadn't changed for some
months.

Hey ho.
