Doug Mitchell

I download data from online databases and it arrives as am xml file.
Previous versions of Excel for Macintosh will not open these files in
a spreadsheet format. Has that changed in Excel 2008?

2008 will open any xlsx files (xml based files).

I don't believe anything has changed in this regard. As in 2004, Excel 2008
can open & save XML Spreadsheet files but still offers no support for
importing other types of XML data that requires a schema.

Of course, the native file format (.xlsx) of 2008 is OOXML as with the
Windows Office 2007 product... But that's a different matter.

Hi Doug,

Can you provide a URL? You may be able to use a web query to import the
data.
