xp office desktop, vista office laptop

What the best advice here to make sure both computers are using same versions:
- should i upgrade my desktop to vista and then upgrade to office 2007?
- should i just buy full office suite for laptop $450. actually, i am a
graduate student so should be able to get a student version/price, if they
have that.

Also, is it possible just to get an 'upgrade' for the laptop/vista based on
my desktop/xp product key?

I HATE that microsoft has no live chat help. IF THEY DO, they bury it.

thanks for any help,
liza.

Office 2007 will run quite happily on XP....

Look at your EULA - if you have a retail copy of Office 2007 then it is
normally permitted to install on one desktop AND one portable, both owned by
you.

Per the use terms, the retail edition of Office 2007 may be installed on
your desktop and a portable machine (laptop) for your exclusive use.

Since my desktop is Windows XP Pro., and my laptop is Vista, it sounds like
they cannot share licenses. Is this correct?

Thanks,
