XP SP2, Office 2003 S&T, Document Imaging = no TIF preview

I've searched Google groups and found references to this problem, but
nothing that fixes is. An MSKB article gave instructions for creating a
registry key at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/.TIF, which I did, but that didn't work,
either.

Is there a definitive resolution? All I see in a thumbnail view is the icon
of the program.

I changed the file association to MODI, so now the file opens, at least.
Before, it was defaulting to Fax and Picture Viewer, which gave the 'no
preview' message. Right-clicking the file and selecting 'Preview' still
fails.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris,

What is the source of the TIF files you're using and how are you opening them? If they're 48 bit TIFFs then MS Office Document
Imaging may not be able to handle them.

Try using File=>Print and Word and choosing the MS Office Document Imaging Writer printer choice and when you're asked to name a
file for the printed output choose a TIF file type and turn on the [x] view option in the dialog.

Originally opened as MDI, saved by MODI as TIF. They were created by MODI.

The problem is not that MODI can't read them, but that previews and
thumbnails don't work.

Thanks for you reply.

Actually, after playing around, the option to use lossless LAW works for
allowing thumbnails. 'Preview' still opens Fax and Picture Viewer, with the
'no preview message'.
