XP SP2, Outlook 2003 SP1 and IMAP trouble?

Hi!

We are using the MDaemon mail server system, running IMAP protocol
and Outlook 2003 SP1.

After upgradering XP to SP2, we are experiencing a problem..

Some mail's won't open in Outlook. I may have something to do with
attachments, but I'm not sure.

When marking such a mail, network traffic appears and Outlook hangs.
After a while (in best case), a note comes up which says something
like "This message has not been downloaded. Please mark the message
for download and try again".

Other mails recived will download to Outlook when you click on them,
but some won't.

I retured to an SP1 machine and created an idenctical IMAP account
for the user, then I'm able to read the message not working under SP2.
....

Any ideas?

I may have found something... By some reason, the SP2 install had
enabled the inbound/outbound mail scanning of our F-Secure Anti Virus.

I disabled the in/out scannning now..

On a slow connecion (0.5 mbit), the mail now shows up after a while.

Should outlook hang during download of IMAP messages (with
attachments)?

I can't test on our office (1gbit network) right now, as i'm out of
the office..

You might also want to check that the Windows firewall is not interfering.

Outlook shouldn't enable that but if it helps then it's worth the try.
The issue is definitely know (to me anyway) so I'm chasing it up with
Microsoft.
Decipher my email address and try in a week or so. I might need a nudge as a
reminder.
Just a note: I generally disable antivirus email scanning (despite many
opinions otherwise). It can often lead to Outlook issues.

I am having the same problem. I am also running f-secure anti-virus and I
just updated to the newest version of Client Security 2.54, I wonder if that
is where the conflict is .

I don't think so - I think it's a general problem. You can try by disabling
any email antivirus integration.
I haven't tried this yet but removing and then adding the account *might*
help.
