XP update & Office SP3 update problem

M

Mary

This is very strange. Suddenly windows XP update says I need to
install Office XP SP3 although it is already installed.

I tried re-installing it from a copy I have on CD but get a message
saying it can't because 1f195e.msp is missing from the
windows/intaller folder. I have searched my hard disk and it is not
anywhere.

How can I overcome this problem?

Hi Mary,

There are several possibilities. The first being that either intentionally or by use of a computer/registry 'cleaner' content was
deleted from the \Windows\Installer folder
That is where applied patches are stored for reuse as needed in Windows and Office and other apps that make use of the MS Installer.

Another is that a 2002 (Office XP) family product was installed after you had previously patched other Office XP-2002 products.

See if you can complete a repair/reinstall of Office XP from Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel. If not, then you may
need to use the MS Installer cleanup utility to zap that entry and then restart the PC and reinstall Office XP back to the same
folder.

Be sure to backup all of your files before trying any repair, reinstall, uninstall or new install software action.
