XP Upgrade and Office Apps

I ran an upgrade to XP Home Edition from Windows98. The
upgrade seemed to go fine, but now whenever I launch an
Office app (XP version, from prior upgrade) it launches an
installation program and then I get an error message that
the installation package STDRET.MSI cannot be found, then
I get error 1706. I can cancel out and the app will end
up starting, but it's a pain to go through the process
every time. It may have something to do with McAfee virus
software that I had a problem uninstalling.
