XP - where is the .pst file?

Just got a new PC - with XP prof op sys, can't find the outlook.pst file to
overwrite with my old outlook.pst file - can anyone help[ ?

Don't overwrite a PST file. Just configure Outlook to use your old one.
Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup:

have you installed Outlook? (tip - it doesn't come with Windows XP)
