Y Axis values need to be divided by 1000

I have source data that is already expressed in thousands dollars (000)
Without changing my source data, I want to express these numbers i
dollars:

$47
to
$47,000

I know how to change the y axis value to thousands but how do you do i
in the reverse without changing the source data????

Is there a reason you need the numbers in thousands? Could you just put
"thousands" in the label for the axis?
