You do not have a World Wide Web start page registered on your computer.

Using Word 2002, I get the above message when I click Start Page on the Web
toolbar.

Searching for the message, I find an Excel list of error messages noting
that this is msg. # 2816.

That's it.

How do I register a WWW start page on my computer?

Don't tell me to do it in IE7's Internet Options | General tab. The reason
I'm messing with this in Word is that IE7 won't let me change my Start Page
(Home Page). KB has been no help in this.

If you cannot change the start page in IE, it is usually the symptom that
you have nasty Malware on your computer. I suggest that you download Stinger
and SpyBot to scan your computer. Be very careful when looking for SpyBot:
make sure you go to SpyBot home at http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html as
some other sites disguise themselves as being the home of SpyBot and then
try to charge a fee for using it. SpyBot is free (as is Stinger).

Did this (have used SpyBot for years, updated, ran it).
Re-enabled Windows Security Center (Norton Protection Center has been
running.)
Reran SpyBot, twice. Ran Norton AV.
No malware, no change in behavior: IE7 will still not allow me to change the
Start Page.
And Word still does not acknowledge any WWW start page or tell me how to
register one.
This is square one. Again.

You may be seeing symptoms in Word but this sounds more like an IE7 issue
than a Word one and you would probably be better asking in
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general.
