Zip codes and mail merge

Trying to merge a lengthy address list from Excel to a
mailing label format in Word. The zip codes that have
the xxxxx-xxxx format are coming across as "0" on the
document. Have tried global formating changes to text
and to zip code but they still come across as "0" Any
solution?

Hi Vicki,

It ALWAYS helps to tell us which version of Word is
involved in a problem.

I'm guessing you have Word 2002. This means Excel is
distinguising whether a field is numeric or contains text,
and only passing across data that matches what it has
decided.

There are a couple of ways to get around this default
behavior. They're described in the Mail merge FAQ on my
webwsite. Start in the "Formatting" section.
