Zoom on opening, vanishing dock icons

Upgraded to Office 2004 recently. Two problems.

1) The dock icons vanish when I leave and then return to Excel. If
the mouse pointer slides over them they are redrawn, but this is a
little, well, silly!

2) Also, now, whenever an Excel doc is first opened, and I use the
scroll wheel (Kensington mouse) to scroll up or down the page... I get
zooming instead! (I posted this on the microsfot.excel group board
and got a few responses which, alas, didn't work, so I thought I'd try
here.)

This is on a Mac running Tiger and, though I've looked and looked,
there is no option in the preferences panel for Excel to turn this off.

Nor could I find an option in the Kensington mouse to alter its
behavior (substitute something) for scroll wheel.

I found the tip for Windows users (Tools, Options, General, uncheck
roll on Intellimouse) but under General prefs on the Mac version there
is no such option.

Yes, I can click on the spreadsheet first to stop the distracting,
irritating behavior, but that's a nuisance and it's been weeks and I
continue to get zooming first (obviously clicking on a doc first is
counter-intuitive, at least to this user). This is an example of
Microsoft taking control and it drives me batty.

Is there a pref I've overlooked somewhere?

Appreciate any assistance on either issue.

This happened to me in earlier versions of Tiger and XL04. I don't
generally use toolbars docked anywhere but at the top, so I don't know
if that fixed the problem, but you should make sure both are updated to
the latest versions (Office 2004 SP2 just came out yesterday).

As I wrote in the regular XL newsgroup, there's no preference that
you've overlooked - it doesn't exist in MacXL, and I can't reproduce
your problem with my scroll-mice. To me, this seems to be a problem
particular to the Kensington mouse. Post back if the same behavior
exists in XL04 SP2, and I'll make sure it gets reported to MacBU. Please
provide the exact model and driver. I'm not familiar with the
Kensingtons - is there any feature in the mouse driver that would
substitute a CTRL-scroll for a regular scroll? I'd suggest also
verifying that Sticky Keys is not enabled (System Preferences/Universal
Access/Keyboard).

Does it always happen, or only when you start XL in a particular way
(e.g., from the dock, double-clicking on the XL app in Finder,
double-clicking on an XL file).

Do you have any add-ins loading at startup?
