colour background in word 2007 tiles instead of as per print previ

Hello,

I have a document with a colour background (1 colour gradient starting from
the centre) set which I am printing from Word 2007 on a 32bit Vista machine.
The document was created in Word 2002 on a 32bit XP system. When viewing the
document in Print Preview, the colour appears correctly in the centre of the
page (repeated vertically once). However when I print (to either a Fuji
Xerox Phaser 8560DN or a Lexmark x5630, or to Microsoft XPS writer), the
colour background changes to a much smaller gradient, tiled in a repeating
pattern as the background, with a green border between each tile.

I have looked through the settings available but am not finding what I can
change to alter this behaviour. Thank you in advance for any assistance you
can offer.

No guarantees, but two things that sometimes work:
1. In Word 2007, try turning off "print in background" in Office
Button | Word Options | Advanced.
2. In Windows, try turning off print spooling and/or advanced
text services in Start | Control Panel | Printers | <right-click
