Corrupt Common Files Folder

I cannot open any Microsoft Office 2007 programs. I am running on Vista and
have Office Small Business 2007. Everything was working fine on Friday and
it looks like updates were loaded overnight because my computer has
restarted. When I went to check my mail on Saturday, Outlook wouldn't open
and the computer started the Windows Installer asking for the "Destination
Component". When I try to start an Office app. I get an "Error 2330. Setup
cannot get attributes for file C:/Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft
Shared/Smart Tag/LISTS. Verify that the file exists in your system and that
you have sufficient permissions to update it." I go to the Common Files
folder and get window that says, "The file or directory is corrupted and
unreadable". What happened?? I tried running the check disc utility, but
didn't get any response. Should I uninstall Office and reinstall? Will I
lose all of my mail messages and accounting data?
