Custom border problem

T

Toobi-Won Kenobi

Having difficulty creating a custom border around a text box in Publisher
2000.
After seleccting the graphic to use, we get the message that Publisher
cannot open the file.
It is not a question of file complexity or on a network as we see the same
message no matter where the source.
The account in question is a limited account, which we are assured, has
managed to create custom borders in the past.
I tried making a border in the admin account and it works OK which would
suggest it is a question of permissions, but why should be so and why did it
work once but no longer?

TIA

Can you create a rectangle around the text box and create BorderArt to the
rectangle?

Download FileMon and RegMon from
http://www.sysinternals.com/. Run them as administrator (when no
user is connected), start a TS session as a normal user and try to
run the application.

FileMon and RegMon will show you all "access denied" errors that
occur, so that you can give your users the necessary permissions on
a file-to file or Registry subkey basis.

Hello Mary,

Many thanks for your reply.
I haven't tried to add a border to a rectangle, just the text box, with the
reported result.
Will try this tomorrow when back in and also download and run the two
utilities you recommended.

Again many thanks.

Hello Mary,

We tried to create a custom border around a rectangle with the same result.
Filmon flags an access denied on the following folder/file
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\PubBrd\BorderArt 166.BDR ACCESS
DENIED PC17\Upper
What was interesting was that this folder contained other custom borders
from when the account was able to create them, sadly no longer. Time for an
upgrade?

I wonder if you deleted the BorderArt you created, the function would return.
You can delete the custom BorderArt within Publisher or in the folder.

Have you tried a detect and repair?

Hello Mary,

I deleted the custom border files in the "PubBrd" folder.....and they came
back!
Removing them from within Publisher (off the border art list) doesn't remove
them from the folder.
Detect and repair? I hope not ;( don't fancy that on 36 installations.
