data1.msi for Office2000, missing

I'm very unhappy.
Just writing to get a confirmation that I'm toast.

I had the bright idea to check my Office for updates. The check said I
needed to upload SP3. I thought this quite strange because my version of
Office 2000 (at last check) was SP3. --I didn't think to stop there and just
clicked load it again.

When I went to put in my Office CD, I opened my CD case and it was empty.
Obviously, I've misplaced it and it's backups and checking, also my win98SE
OS that I'm running. -- I bet they are all in the same place.

Anyway, I have the Product ID, but no disk.

The update download had a box to check if you didn't have the CD available.
I thought this would get me out of the woods. But, half-way through, it
asked for data1.msi. I knew that file wasn't on my Office SR1 update disc.
I did a search on my computer and no luck--it's dissappeared --and yes, I
have "show all files" checked.

Without that file, I can't update -- Right?
and even if I could find another, it still wouldn't work since it wouldn't
match "my" original setup?

So, I am toast as to updating. Is this right?

--before I close the box that tells me to put in my office cd with the .msi
file, have I really messed up? When I cancel the update, since it already
started, my installed Office 2000 is going to be broken as well?

Rats, rats, rats.
Thanks,
Bob T
