"Database Maintenance Required" error on startup

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: Exchange My boss uses OfM Entourage 2008. Whenever he opens Entourage 2008 the error pops up "Database Maintenance Required" and closes the client asking to send the error message to MS. he clicks "yes" then tries again.

I did a little research, the db could be currupt. He has started the repair process and it reports taking 3-4 hours. I suggested that from the other articles I have read it might be a good idea to compact it since he performed some housekeeping on some old emails and the db still reports itself as 15GB.

What else can I do to assist? This is the third time in a month this has happened. We moved to an all Mac dept. last June and he is the only one of the five of us with ths issue.

I had him perform the disk permissions repair, we performed the verify disk process from the DVD. The disk itself is fine, the db is the only issue this machine is experiencing.

Reading other sites, we verified there was not more than one DB Daemon running or in the bootup items list.

Am willing to try anything.

Thanks,

HayMoose

I suggest creating a new Identity. Rebuilding does not always fix issues.
Continued rebuilding can even make things worse.

1. First try File > Export as Entourage archive (.rge) file
2. If this gives an error, then export all but messages.
3. If this fails, then do one item at a time to find where corruption is
located.
4. download the script to export as MBOX files. The script will fail on
folder with corruption

Export folders as MBOX files (includes subfolders)

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)

We finally reached the end of the repair and compacted it. The final size is 9GB. It seems to be working fine for now. Thanks for your feedback!

Be sure to backup regularly. I find a lot of users report corruption shortly
after rebuilding. Moving to a new Identity is the only sure way to get rid
of all the problems.
