Earned value visual report with Excel 2003

I have a client who is using project 2007 and Excel 2003. After running the
earned value report with either weeks or quarters selected as the level of
data he can see the pivot chart with weeks or quarters. However if he runs
days then he can only see weeks. I use project 2007 and Excel 2007 with no
problem. Any thoughts apart from upgrading to Excel 2007?

Hello JulianM,

I can partially confirm what you note. When I create an Earned
Valued Report in Excel 2007 with days as the lowest level of data,
and then open that file in Excel 2003, the ability to expand from
Weeks goes away. I can only assume this is a compatibility issue
with the pivot table format. If you try saving the Excel 2007 file
as an Excel 2003 file, you will see a message about compatibility
and potential loss of data.

I had better success saving the Assignment Usage cube and then
opening the file using Excel 2003. I had to make sure I manually
added the Earned Value fields to the assignment usage cube data
before saving the cube. I opened the file in Excel 2003, dragged
the Tasks to Page, Time Monthly calendar to Row, and then Earned
Value, Planned Value, and AC to data. I clicked on the drop-down to
the right of the year showing at Row and then could select to show
data down to the day level. I had to select each day in turn, as
selecting the month did not select each individual day. I was able
to create a pivot table similar to the one created in Excel 2007 in
that manner.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
