Enterprise custom lookup table value different from project prof.

Hi,

I've created an project level enterprise custom field from project server
2007 and use a lookup table for value selection (lookup table created from
project web access). However, when I click on Project -> Project Information
in Project Professional 2007 and click on the project enterprise custom field
the value from the dropdown were different from the value I defined from
lookup table. Any idea on why does it happened? Thanks in advance.

Hello Gerry,

Just the previous topic on the forum today is very similar "Issues
with Enterprise lookups and local cache"
Please refer. Also this happens due to old cache files. To be quick,
clear the cache folders and launch MSP. This would get you the new
field with lookup table values.

Thanks,
Ravi.

Hi Ravi,

I've clear the cache directory and the problem is fixed. Thanks.

So where do i find the local cache directory, i initially thought your were
referring to the cache in Project Pro, but clearing that didn't resolve my
issue, i.e. the custom field description not the value is displaying in my
views.

If you are using Windows Vista, you can find the Local Cache at the
following location on your hard drive:

C:\Users\YourUserID\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MS Project\Cache

If you are using Windows XP, you can find it at the following location:

C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserID\Application Data\Microsoft\MS
Project\Cache

Delete everything you find in this folder, including files and folders.
That will clear every last remnant of Local Cache information. Hope this
helps.

To clear your cache files, close and check in all projects and exit Project
Professional
Start > Run
Type in %appdata% and click OK
Navigate to \Microsoft\MS Project folder
Delete the 12 and the Cache folders, they will be re-created when you log
back in and start opening up projects

This will take care of your mixed up values in Project Professional.

The other issue I am hearing you state is that you are seeing the
description values rather than the dropdown value when you are grouping by
them in Project Center views? Is what you are experiencing. I believe this
is a bug, not sure if it has been resolved in any hotfix or service pack.

I think the only work around is to delete the description from the look up
tables and this will fix the issue instantly, no need to re-publish any
plans.

Thanks Jonathan, and yes you are correct re "hearing you state is that you
are seeing the description values rather than the dropdown value", the
interesting part is the actual value was display up until this posting.

Hmm, that is strange then if it was working correctly before even when you
had descriptions in the lookup tables.

Has anything changed recently like an applied service pack, UI or hotfix?
Sometimes these can introduce new issues. I have only seen this issue most
recently in an environment with SP1 installed.

Nothing has changed and what's really interesting is it doesn't impact
everyone, some people see the value and others see the decription. Which
makes me think it's IE related. I will keep digging until i find the answer.

Hello,

We decided to remove the description in the code table, so only the code
value resides in the lookup table as a work around.

Yes, that is a obvious workaround, but in my case not valid, we want
to shown on pwa the name in the value without any changes and we
pretended to use the values in description to produce reports for
clients (we will use number to order the fields).

In my simple opinion this feature doesn´t make any sense, since by my
logic the description should be a field only for some extra
explanation and not for showing.

Does anybody else have a solution for this?
