Entourage 2008 unknown error

I recently installed Office 2008 on a new iMac running Leopard 10.5.4.
Entourage is *losing* emails that it tries to download off the server. It
connects to the POP account, begins downloading the messages, then fails
before it finishes. The emails never show up in the Inbox or anywhere else,
and are gone from the server, too.

The error log says: An unknown internal program error occurred.
Explanation: Could not retrieve mail. [Account name follows]. Error:
1634955892.

Why is this happening? What can I do about it? I've already reinstalled
the program, and it is updated to 12.1.2.

All Entourage generated errors get a descriptive text as well as the error
number. Many of the errors in Entourage are simply return results from
whatever the server passes. Your ISP might be able to help you with these.

I suspect this is an error coming from your ISP.

Make sure you have checked "leave on server" under the Options tab until you
can figure out what is wrong.
