i just bought a macbook and used the setup (migration) assistant to
move my powerbook's user account to the new machine using a firewire
cable (as recommended and the only way to do such). after a couple of
hours, everything was transferred over amazingly smoothly.

i now expected to find that entourage would still be causing problems
and crashing as mentioned above since theoretically all files and
settings, including any corrupt ones, would be transported. what i
found was that entourage went back to working like a dream, something
i had not had for a while on my old machine to the point that i went
back to using my windows notebook with outlook.

i am now using parallels to run outlook on the macbook and mostly
dumped entourage although its still there when i need it.

still no explanation for those entourage crashes on the powerbook. i
reinstalled the original factory setup after moving everything out of
it.

Glad to hear it¹s working now. Everything you are saying points to something
other than Entourage and your Entourage Identity as the cause. It would be
nice to track down the culprit, but I expect that time does not permit the
exhaustive testing that would be needed. All in all it just shows how other
things can make Entourage unstable.
