Hide screentips

Can you turn off screentips when rolling over a hyperlink to another file (either in ppt 2004 or 2008)? Looks pretty dumb in the middle of a presentation - is there a work-around?

I don't think you can turn them off. I think the best you can do is set
them to something less obtrusive like putting in space or period as the
screen tip. A box still pops up, but it is smaller.

Hi Chris,

I don't think PowerPoint is a stupid program. There's a lot of good
thinking in there. As it turns out, the ability to turn them off was
added to PowerPoint 2007 for Windows
http://www.java2s.com/Tutorial/Micr...ction/TurnoffScreenTipsorchangethedisplay.htm

If you, and anyone else who is interested, were to take a moment to let
Microsoft know that you would like this capability ported to the Mac,
use Mac PowerPoint's Help > Send Feedback to make a feature request.

Given that only you and one other request for this capability turned up
in a Google search, chances are that your request might not become a
high priority, but if enough people request it, then it might happen.

Hi Chris -

The universal standard established for external hyperlinks is to provide
identification of the target to which the link points. This is primarily
because the hyperlink text frequently doesn't give any indication of where
the user will wind up when the link is clicked and that location is outside
of the "domain" in which the link is located. If not done by way of the
Screen Tip method it still appears elsewhere - such as in a browser's status
bar. The trend toward dishonoring that standard is something which has
evolved since the construction & release of 2004/2008. And the fact that
PPT's simply complies with that standard hardly qualifies as "daft".

I understand that the tips may be undesirable from your personal point of
view but from many other perspectives that behavior is not only acceptable &
desirable, but also expected & required.

If you notice, links to other locations in the same presentation file
(internal hyperlinks) do not generate Screen Tips.
