Hotmail access with Outlook 2003

I

ineu

I could access and download messages from my fre Hotmail acoiunt until a few
days ago. After downloading the latest updates and fixes for Office 2003 I
suddenly get this message:

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error
(0x800CCCF4) : 'An unknown error has occurred. Please save any existing work
and restart the program.'

Has anybody an idea whether I can fix it or does it mean that MS will force
me to pay them in order to continue using the free services that I used for

I'm thinking it's because you need a paid account. Hotmail changed policies
a number of months ago but it's been taking time for it to hit all accounts,
as far as I can tell. Many webmail providers have moved to a 'pay for
external client access' model. GMail is still free for access via Outlook &
other POP clients.

Support for free hotmail was eliminated months ago. You must use the web
interface unless you have a paid MSN premium account.

It could mean you need to pay - but the error message usually says that and
is quite easy to understand. This one seems to indicate there is a problem
either in outlook or with hotmail. My money is on hotmail - give it a few
days and see if it works again.

I don't know if this applies:

if you search on the error code, you'll find a number of people have the
problem, even on paid accounts, and I don't know that anyone has reported
back with what worked.

Thanks to all 3 of you. You confirmed what I thought, that (unless it is
really only a script error) Microsoft does not get more customer friendly but
continues to force them to do what Microsoft wants. As a consequence I will
shift completely from Hotmail to Yahoo now.

Hint - Yahoo also requires a paid account to access it from Outlook or
Outlook Express.

Get used to it - the Internet Free Ride is over.

In the same office, using the SAME systems, one computer has no problem
accessing both Hotmail and Yahoo, but the OTHER computer, also using XP and
Outlook 2003, absolutely will not allow us to send or receive anything. My
laptop seems to have no problem accessing Hotmail, but will not access Yahoo.

Both of these are free accounts, as are the ones in the office.
