how can I check the planned % complete with actual % complete

I want to check the progress of project by % complete tab.
Saved project baseline to know various variances of the project.

Is there any way to compare actual progress vs planned progress by the way
of % complete?

Hi
The baseline plan does not save planned % complete. Its saves planned
duration, work, start date, finish date and cost information.

However if you want to know planned %complete goto Tools-Tracking-Update
Project
Set the status date as on which you want to know %complete
Select Set 0% to 100% complete
Select entire project and click on Ok

This should give you ideal planned %complete information as on the status
date selected
Hope this helps.

Note: The actual %complete will be overwritten if you write something.
If you want to save planned %complete copy paste that information into some
other field

Thnx Manmeet, I hv been doing this only, but it only works when:
1. we have either not started or completed future tasks.
2. we are already ahead of the plan

for example if an activity is planned to start/ finish in future date and we
have done so earlier, this feature should show the planned % complete lesser
than the actual which does not happen.

can this be taken care by any means?

As a minimum, you should enter Actual Start, then Actual Duration and
Remaining duration or Actual Work and Remaining Work.

More accurate again is to display Actual Work in the Resource Usage View and
enter actual hours of work on the days they were done, or use a timesheet
tool that updates project (such as project server).

If you update via the second, more accurate way you can use earned value
reporting (see project help) to measure progress today compared to what it
should have been in the baseline.

The [Status] column will graphically indicate if you are on schedule, late,
or future task as compared to baseline. Howerver, you must use Rod's method
in combination with the %Complete to find the ideal %Complete at a given
point in time.

Although it was not specifically stated, make sure to *not* save the project
file once you have calculated the entire project ideal %Complete. Doing so
will show artificial progress. Make sure to store your "real" %Complete in
another field such as Text1.

Remember, %Complete is only marking against time, not work. %WorkComplete
and Physical%Complete may be much more suited to your needs.
