increase margins

When I try to increase my right margin I get an error message "increasing the
right margin causes the last column to become too narrow in some sections
having unevenly spaced columns." And I can't change the margins!!!!!!!!

Go to Format | Columns and click on One (not just 1), which causes the
"Equal column width" box to be checked. This should solve your problems.
Note that it is irrelevant whether you actually have any columns in the
document or not.
