Linked Graphic Resizes in Word (Office 2003)

I have a graphic that is 1 inch high and 7.3 inches wide. When I link it in
various Word documents, they appear fine. I save the file and when I reopen
it, the graphic size appears smaller. I have done this in the past without
any problems. Am I missing something? Thanks, PS
