Microsoft Word for Mac 2008 hangs each time Itry to open a document within the program

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I have the latest updated versions of Word for Mac 2008 (12.2.4) and OSX (10.6.3).

Every time I try to open a word document WITHIN Microsoft word the program automatically hangs. This does NOT happen when I try to open the same document from the Finder window. The program does not hang with other commands (eg. save) and other Office programs do not seem to have the same problem.

I used to have an older version of Word (2004) but have upgraded to 2008. I used to have the same problem but thought it might go away with the upgrade- unfortunately it didn't.

After Word hangs I have no choice but to force quit ('Microsoft Word not responding'). It comes up with a long problem report which I have copied below.

It's falling over in Address Book. Word is attempting to access your
Address Book and failing.

Chances are, the "Me" card in your Address Book is bad.
