MSProject entered WBS values not correct in Resource Usage view

I've created a resource schedule in Microsoft Project Standard 2003. In this
I've mainatined my own values for WBS. When I swicth to the Resource Usage
view WBS values I've entered are not all displayed. Some entries have
outline numbers others have the values I've displayed. If I go back to the
Gnatt view and enter some of the WBS values again (i.e. type over with the
same entry) then the values in the Resource Usage view begin to be populated.
However, I cannot find one route to get the correct values to be displayed
in the Resource Usage view.

Hi Graham,

I am not able to reproduce what you are seeing. A couple of questions:

What service pack of Project 2003 are you using?

You note that you "maintain" your own WBS values. Have you created a
WBS mask for entry or are you just manually overtyping the default WBS
values?

Let us know and we'll see if we can help out further.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie

Thanks for the reply.

Re "Service Pack", sorry I do not know how to find that out. But "About
Microsoft Offie Project" tells me its Project Standard (11.02.2003.0816.15)
does that help.

I have not created a WBS mask but rather I'm just manually overtyping.

I've been playing with the problem and it seems to be something to do with
lower level tasks and rollups. I've got about 375 activities with about 4
levels of roll-up. If I look through the Resource Usage view and find a
task without the incorrect WBS, then swap back to the Gnatt chart view and
find that task it is a sub-task of for Example Roll-up Task XYZ. If I then
find the last subtask within XYZ and re-enter its WBS value (type over just
the last digit with the same value) when I swap back to the Resource Usage
the WBS values are now correct for all the sub-tasks of XYZ.

Also I've just this moment discovered that if I swap from the Resource View
to the Gnatt view, show all subtasks, then scroll to the bottom of the Gnatt
chart then go back to Resource USage all teh WBS values are now correctly
displayed. It is almost as if having to display the values on the screen in
one view leads to them being correctly displayed in the other. Note that
Sub-tasks not displayed in the Gnatt view do not have the correct WBS values
in teh Resource Usage view.

I cannot promise that this behaviour is consistent.

Thanks

Graham

Hi Graham,

Sorry for the delay in replying. The Service Pack information I asked
for was because MS Project 2003 has been service packed with two packs
SP-1, and SP-2. When service packs are applied, the Help > About
Microsoft Office Project will say SP1 or SP2 after the release build --
the 11.02.2003.0816.15 in your listing.

It doesn't appear as though Service Pack 2 is installed. So, the first
step I suggest is downloading and installing Service Pack 2. Follow the
URL below for information on download and install of SP2.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ef-af64-444d-942d-1188843a8fa4&DisplayLang=en

I cannot reproduce what you are seeing with Project 2003 SP2 even after
having tasks collapsed up and switching views, so possibly the issue you
are seeing will be fixed with the installation of the service pack

Try installing the service pack and let us know how you get along.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
