Office 2000 Error....

R

R Brown

In the attempt to repair Microsoft Office 2000 Premium due to Icons missing
within Windows XP Professional. I am recieving the following Error... "This
package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that
you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a
valid Windows Installer Package."

I have attempted to uninstall office and I recieve the same error message.
This is a retail version. I have scanned the forum and have done several of
the suggestions such as running Setup.exe/fv Data1.msi and also running the
msicuu2.exe file from the Microsoft Website. None of which is working.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how I can resolve this problem?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Hi Ray,

It's possible that more than one Office Product was damaged, especially if you've used a 3rd party 'PC/Registry cleaner' product.

Check for Microsoft products in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel. You may need to use the MS Windows installer
cleanup utility (MSICUU.exe) on more than one MS Product, then restart the PC and install the product again.

To add to Bobs comment, if it is a registry cleaner that has caused
this, some of these allow you to create a back up file.... if this is
the case then it may well be worth while going to the cleaner
programme and trying a 'Restore back up'.

Registry cleaners can do more harm than good if you don't watch what
they'er deleting, problem is there is many a shared file.
