Office for MAC won't upgrade, not even download the upgrade...

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Hi...

I have an iMac 3.06Ghz with 4Gig RAm installed and Office for Mac Home and Student Edition that is running Leopard. I did upgrade to Snow Leopard (Upgrade, not clean install...) and everything went well with the upgrade. I then opened Word and an update window popped up (asking to upgrade to 12.2.1). I did download the upgrade with no issues but, when it's time to run it, it says that Office Update can't find the folder where Office for Mac is installed.

I then have no choice than quitting the upgrade process.

I had no problem upgrading before going to Snow Leopard...

Is Office for Mac compatible with Snow Leopard ? Is the upgrade process compatible also ?

Same with a brand new MacBook Pro that I did upgrade to Leopard. I then install my 2nd Office product Key and tried to upgrade... same error...

Thanks in advance for your quick response and any tips you can provide !

I suspect that you will need to re-install Office. Then it should update.

Steps to re-install Office

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/reinstall_steps.html>

There are some newer versions of some fonts installed by Snow Leopard. You
need to remove the older Microsoft ones. Some users have disabled using Font
Book they they stayed disabled, but others found they re-enabled. I suggest
trashing the older versions.

Hi Diane...

Thanks for the answer...

I did EXACTLY all of the troubleshooting that's in there... with NO success.

I also did a clean install of Snow Leopard... unsuccesful...

I also did a reinstall from the original disks, making sure that I do restart in between. I was at Leopard 10.5.8 and the updates didn't work. It keeps saying the same error message. So it's not associated with Snow Leopard install as it does it also with Leopard 10.5.8...

I'm stuck I think to visit the One on One at the Apple store... because I'm out of ressources...

If you can help me more, that will be very appreciated !

Hi guys... and Diane !

Finally... the situation is RESOLVED ! ! !

Here's EXACTLY my procedure :

1- Clean install of Snow Leopard (put the Cd in the drive, restart, did customize, erased hard drive partition and reformatted with install)

2- Did download all a^ppropriate French upgrades and burned onto a CD

3- Did all Apple and other software updates, so SNOW Leopard is at 10.6.1

4- Did install Microsoft Office 2008 from original CD

5- Did RESTARD 4 TIMES before doing 1st update. NEVER OPEN ANY OFFICE APPLICATION ! ! ! IMPORTANT !

6- Put the Upgrades CD in the drive, copied 1st upgrade on the desktop, removed the CD from the drive.

7- Perform 1st upgrade--double clicking on the file and mount it on the hard drive--follow procedure.

8- Did restard 4 times after 1st upgrade

9- Performed all upgrades the same way as the 1st upgrade, deleting the previous upgrade from the desktop and keeping only the current. WITHOUT OPENING ANY OFFICE APPLICATION--IMPORTANT ! And restarted 4 times between EACH !

10- Did the 12.2.2 (last one) the same way...

1-- All upgrades succeeded ! ! !

One thing that is REALLY IMPORTANT : when you manually download the upgrades, download the ones according to your Original Office language ! ! ! Updating an original Spanish version with an English version won't work. I was doint exactly this as my original is in french and I was trying to update with an English update...

VOILÀ !

Thanks Diane for all the tips and keep those ones in your bank !

Finally... the situation is RESOLVED ! ! !

Glad it's working for you finally. What an ordeal you had to go through. At
least restarting isn't a painful experience...just time consuming.
