Setting BCWS and BCWP equal to ACWP in Project 2003

Generally if you save the baseline after actual costs have been entered, MS
Project will set BCWS and BCWP equal to ACWP. At this time I need to clear
the variances from the Earned Value table and I want to do this by setting
BCWS and BCWP equal to ACWP . However when I save the baseline, MS Project is
not setting BCWS and BCWP equal to ACWP. Instead it is increasing the BCWS.
Can anyone explain why this is not working?
