Setting language to check other than US English

Hi all,

I have a user in the organization I work for that will be writing documents
using UK English. She wants to be able to run the spell checker for UK
English not US English. For some reason, I cannot make this work.

We are using Office 2003 in a Windows XP environment. Per MS Office Word
2003, I switched the default language settings by going to the MS Office
Tools under programs, choosing MS Office 2003 Language Settings, and chose
English (UK) under the Enabled Language tab. I exited out of all MS Office
programs, restarted and tested with a new document. The word I put in as
spelled the US English way (which I thought would be flagged) was not flagged
in the spell checker. While in Word, I went to Tools, and Language and
verified that English UK was the default but I also saw the English US at the
top of the list as well. I then went back to the Enabled Language tab under
MS Office 2003 Language Settings and removed English US out of the "Enabled"
list. Started a new MS Word document and still the same thing. I even
restarted the computer but still there was nothing flagging the US English
spelling was incorrect.

Am I missing a step here or am I doing something wrong? My user wants to be
able to switch back and forth between spell checking in ONLY UK English and
Only US English if that is possible. Any helpful advice/suggestions will be
greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
LaurenM

I have the same problem. We (Australia) use USA keyboards, but UK spellings.

If you set the computer's language (Control Panel > Regional Settings) to UK
English Word will accept changing the language to UK English - but this will
not work for me as we have USA keyboards (ie. $, not pound keys etc..)

Need to be able to set the PC's input to US English keyboard, but Word to UK
English! It's very frustrating being red-underlined for spelling words
CORRECTLY!

Seems to me you should be setting the computer to English(Austrailia)
NOT English(United Kingdom) or English(United States)
