Trying to register Office on my secondary computer

D

dbuckley

I recently purchased Office 2008 for my MacBook Pro. According to the literature, the one product key should be valid for a primary computer (my desktop) and a secondary computer (the MacBook Pro in question). However, no Office application will open when it is prompted. There is also no information on how to get this solved.

Does anyone know how to get the one product key accepted on a secondary machine?

If you're referring to registering online then don't bother. You're only
signing up for a mailing list and Microsoft is not storing your name and
serial number in any sort of database.

Office for Mac does not require any online activation to continue using it.

Hope this helps!

If you've succeeded at installing the software on the MBP the product key
(on the back of the disk sleeve) must have been accepted. If the installed
software won't *run* that's one thing.

If you can't get the software installed on the MBP for some reason - such as
the product key not being accepted - that's something else altogether.

Please provide a thorough & complete description of exactly what the problem
is. Include details of what you're attempting to do, what you expect, what's
happening contrary to those expectations as well as the content of any error
messages you may be seeing.

BTW - Just in case: Although the software can be installed on two systems as
you understand, Office can be *running* on only one of the two at any given
time... Could that be what you're running into?

Additionally, neither of the above scenarios have anything to do with
registering the software, which is completely unnecessary.

Related to the original question about licensing, I have always wondered what would happen when my existing computer has to be replaced. Is the licence per machine or per user? Would one have to buy a new licence or can one transfer the licence to a new machine on the basis that the old one is defunct?

Your Office licenses belong to you and are not bound to a computer. So
long as you have each license installed on not more than just one
desktop and one laptop at a time then you can install it over and over
on any machine.

Hope this helps!
