“Insert auto text†is grayed out in the Header Footer tool

I am using word 2003.
Why is it that the “Insert auto text†is grayed out in the Header Footer
tool when I open the header of a new document?

The most likely cause is that Normal.dot contains no AutoText entries
because you have saved a document in or as Normal.dot. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm for instructions to
regenerate it.
