100 % cpu usage

Hello,
In outlook 2003, the cpu spikes to 50% and another process (svchost) to the
remaining 50 %... so I'm forced to shut down the pc, (hard reset of the dell
620 notebook).
I have renamed the outcmd.dat ... nothing changed. Any suggestion ?
I have seen that that file contains the toolbar... I just have the Acrobat 8
buttons.
How I can re-install that toolbar without re-installing acrobat /

Thanks in advance for the interest.

When you see the CPU usage percentages, I assume that you have the Task
Manager open. From there you could easily stop the Outlook process
instead of doing a hard reset. Hard reset should only be done in an
emergency, and you will always risk losing data.

I don't know what's causing the high CPU usage; try running Outlook in
Safe Mode (Run -> outlook /safe), and see if it also happens.

I 'm forced to perform an hard reset, since outlook become unresponsive.
I also try to kill with task manager, but it does not work. The gui of
outlook is quiting, but outlook.exe it is still running.... :-((

It may take a few minutes after ending the Outlook process until it's
completely gone, but it eventually will be. Make sure you don't have
multiple Outlook processes running.

Have you tried the Safe Mode?

Generally I wait more than 5 minutes (go for a coffe :))

I have only one instance of outlook, and only one time outlook went itself
in safe mode (when I restart after the hard reset). Then outlook checked the
pst file.... and the same day again, outlook was taking the cpu at 100 %.

I have noticed that there is also a svchost.exe at 50% (when outlook took
the other 50%).... may be a clue ?

Thansk for the interest and the reply.
