I have to tell you that I'd be hesitant to hire an admin who can't phrase a
question properly, capitalize properly, run spell check, or punctuate
properly.

Hi Carey,
Thank you for your reply on my spelling, Just to let you know that was a
typo not the case of not knowing how to spell. If this is how you reply then
no thank you for your help.

Thank you,

People don't seem to realize that there's no excuse for poor spelling in
public. I don't begrudge anyone for using a dictionary, a grammar or
punctuation guide, and spell check. As a matter of fact, I respect them a
bit more because that shows they care.

JoAnn,
In an informal setting such as these newsgroups spelling, grammar, and
punctuation should not matter as people do make mistakes when typing and are
here seeking help not to be criticized. I don't believe these errors are in
any way a true reflection of one's abilities. I have been known to make
spelling errors and misuse words but usually realize my mistake after the
message has been sent. I do care but life is too short to worry about it.

I should have made my response a bit clearer. Spelling errors (or in my
cases, typos) in a newsgroup can happen. But when a post is rife with
errors, that says (to me at least) "This isn't important enough to me to try
to do it correctly." I'm frustrated with the casual attitude of younger
workers. I've worked with many on their first job and even if it *is* a
crappy little minimum wage job, it is still a real job.

I have to stop here - unfortunately one of my pet peeves is raising the
minimum wage. I tend to tick off people with my opinions on that subject. I
have a definite stance on that topic.

Good morning Peter,

This was my first time using this newsgroup for help and so far it has been
not so good, I'm sorry you felt my attitude was wrong all I was asking for
was some help.
I do understand that some people do have pet peeves about things. I just
wanted a simple answer to my question not to be criticized. Since you have
so gracefully informed me that my emails will not longer be answered I say
thanks to all for their help. Remember no one is perfect.

Around here it is not a casual attitude it's more like I Don't Care
Attitude. When I worked microwave assembly line repair I had to keep going
back to the same individuals constantly about plugging up wires or screwing
down fuses in most cases all they had to do was one wire or screw. Line
inspectors weren't much better either.

Kimba =^..^=

In the message below the post of "Peter Foldes", it states: "Please Reply to
Newsgroup for the benefit of others. Requests for assistance by email can

I had to laugh a little because the topics I've been reading here are about
the use of proper spelling, and yet the word "cannot" (see above) is used as
two words, when it should be used as one word: either as "can't" or "cannot".
;o)

But we ALL make mistakes! ;o) I've been a secretary for over 15 years and
have been utterly amazed at some of the simple spelling errors I have made,
not to mention embarrassed, since some of these errors were on typed letters
that were sent out before I had the chance to correct them! ;o)

Too, some people check this site out just to get some help. While I
definitely DO agree that spelling, grammar, etc., are VERY important, and I
DO believe that the people who reply to posts on this site do mean to be
helpful, I can understand why a person might easily get offended if they are
immediately corrected on a public message board, when all they were looking
for was just a little bit of help.)

We are not machines...but are still (thankfully) human beings! ;o)

And I have to snigger that you are so gullible as to not copy the message to
notepad and notice the space between can and not.

News groups monitors are so funny - it is no wonder they are often referred

Jo - there are no spelling errors. A spellcheck wouldn't pick up the
grammatical error ('affective' versus 'effective') that's an error of
grammar, really, not spelling.

I''m with you all the way on the rest, though.

I hate to pop your little bubble of self-importance, but either is correct,
just as both 'alright' and 'all right' are considered acceptable (though in
formal English the latter is considered the one to use).
