2000 Word Freezes when choosing to print or page setup

I posted an earlier message and went to Microsoft MVP
FAQs but could not find my problem. Word works just fine
until I pull down the file menu and click on print or
page set up. The cursor turns to an hour glass and a
window opens that says the program is not responding. I
have to shut down and send another in an endless list of
Reports to Microsoft. I can open files and read them,
but when I go to print, even the choosing the icon
for "print" or the "print" file under "options - general"
causes the program to freeze. What is going on?

Anytime you have problems with the Print, Page Setup, Font, Style, or Symbol
dialog, your first thought should be a damaged printer driver. Try deleting
and reinstalling the printer (this would be a good time to check the
manufacturer's Web site for an updated driver).

Even if you print to a network printer, you should have the driver installed
locally. Otherwise, if you are disconnected from the network, Word will not
function properly. So it might well be the local driver that is damaged.
