2003: normal view, remove underscore by insertion point

When opening a new document in Word 2003, Normal view shows a long black
underscore following the blinking insertion point. How do I remove it and
simply show the insertion point (like print layout view)? Thanks.

Unfortunately, I'm blocked out of that site at work.
Just to clairfy, the Underscore is non-printing and doesn't appear in the
Print Layout (or any other) view. It wouldn't bother me, but it's bugging my
boss.

I'm blocked out of that site at work. Just to clarify, it's not a corruption
of the normal.dot. The underscore by the insertion point only appears in
Normal view and not any of the other views.

It's bugging my boss and he was asking about it.

You can't get rid of it. It is the end of document marker, and it only and
always shows in Normal View. Just ignore it.

Tell your IT support to give you access to the site. The mvps.org web site
is one of the most complete help sites available for Word. There is nothing
in it that will give your IT department cause for concern and it could aid
your productivity to trhe benefit of your employer.
