2003 not compatible with earlier formats

Can anyboy tell me if older than 2003 Outlook clients are blocked from
seeing a 2003 Outlook Client calendar over a 2003 Exchange server.

Is this back to the old days of upgrade by incompatibility?

No.Any version of Outlook should be able to work with any version of Exchange. However, because of different ways that rules are handled, it's not a good idea to use different clients with the same mailbox.
