2003 will not auto sum

J

John Sullivan

In a column, when I enter whole numbers with no decimal
points, the auto sum works correctly (such as three rows
of numbers like 4567, 33425, 88483). But when I enter in
a column 3 rows of numbers such as 234.54, 4347.98,
443438.32 (with decimal points followed by 2 or 3
numbers), I cannot manually sum or auto sum the numbers,
and the numbers when entered with decimals do not
automatically right-justify. Please help!

If they are left aligned they are text and would explain the zero sum,
are you typing in these numbers? If you do the only thing I can think of
is a regional setting has been changed. Do start>settings>control panel and
check
the regional and language options (assuming you are using xp) customize
and specifically the decimal separator, yours is probably something else
than a period
Change this back to a period, apply the changes. If it is correct there I
believe 2003
has an international tab under tools>options, look there as well for a
changed
decimal separator and change it back
