A perplexing problem with filename appearing...

Hi All,

I am in some need of help. I have been struggling to figure out when a
filename (file path such as ABC.Doc) appears as a summary task in my reports
on a consolidated/master project plan. I have made sure the "project summary
task" box is unchecked in the tools/options area.

I have also made sure that the properties of the inserted project is not
displaying the file path or filename but rather what is should.

I have also tried to make custom filters and tables to no avail.

Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hi Ric,

When you insert or link a sub-project, MS Project shows all tasks in the
sub-project. Task 0 (the project summary task) by default is labeled with
the filename. You can modify it by going into File/Properties/Summary and
changing the title. This is also where Project stores the author, manager,
etc. used in titleblocks and reports.

I have never tried to turn this Task 0 off in the Master Project, but always
change the title to something meaningful. Hope this helps

Thank you, Douglas. You can turn off the project summary task in the options
area under tools. However, it is not on.

What is happening is the properties of the imported project show the correct
title, but the report is showing the filename minus the extension.

I also want the task summary to show rather than the project or project
summary task.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Hi Ric,

There may be confusion in this issue. I believe a master project always
shows row 0, the project summary row, for all its subprojects. What happens
when you change the name of one of your subprojects by going to
File/Properties/Summary of one of the subprojects? If the corresponding row
changes in the master project (assuming you have them linked), then you know
that the "file name" you see is the project name. Does this clarify things?

HTH,
Crook

Thanks for the response. However, I have tried this. I have even tried
turning off the project summary task in the main file. I have even tried to
retype the correct name on the master plan view. Still, the reports are
showing the project filename, such as xxx.mpp - but without the mpp part.
