A Word document has turned into a flasher

Hope someone can help since our geek(that is what she calls herself) is on vacation. I am running Windows XP with Word 2000. I am creating a new form for my company that contains tables as well as regular text. Every time I hit a key on my keyboard, my screen blinks or "flashes". It is very annoying. I just opened up Excel and Access and they seem to be fine. It is just this one document in Word. Any suggestions?
